Extracorporeal Focused Shockwave and Radial Shockwave Therapy are non-surgical techniques developed for the treatment of localized musculoskeletal pain. In our office, we use both focused and radial shockwaves which involve the application of a series of high-energy impulses to an affected area. The shock wave is a physical shock, not an electric one, that is used to initiate the body's natural healing process by creating a localized inflammatory response. The body responds by increasing the metabolic activity around the site of treatment, therefore stimulating and accelerating the healing process. Both therapies can also help break down scar tissue and calcified areas as well.

Extracorporeal Focused Shockwave and Radial Shockwave Therapy is a non-surgical technique developed for the treatment of localized musculoskeletal pain. Common conditions that can be successfully treated with RSWT are:
After a thorough patient history, detailed assessment, your practitioner will determine if shockwave therapy is for you. If you are a candidate for shockwave therapy, the primary area of pain is localized. Our comprehensive treatment program includes several important steps-
Dr. Nick starts by conducting a thorough patient history and a detailed assessment. Utilizing a musculoskeletal ultrasound, he determines if shock wave therapy is the best choice for the patient. If the patient is a suitable candidate for this therapy, the primary area of pain is identified. A skin gel is then applied to this area to help facilitate the precise transmission of the shockwaves into the body. Along with treating the localized area of pain, Dr. Nick also considers a comprehensive approach to patient care, ensuring that dysfunctional movement patterns are rectified, therefore preventing any recurrence of symptoms.
Patients are then scheduled for an initial therapy course that consists of four (4) to six (6) treatments. Out of these, three treatments are specifically for shock wave therapy, which is often combined with laser therapy in practice. An active rehabilitation session is also scheduled. During this session, exercises are implemented, designed to strengthen and boost endurance in the affected areas while also enhancing overall mobility. If necessary, a few additional manual therapy sessions may be incorporated to address any other dysfunctional tissues that might be contributing to the pain or have developed in response to the patient's symptoms.
